Official State Memorial

On March 2, 2020 the Missouri State Senate passed Senate Bill No. 656, which was sponsored by Senator Mike Cierpiot (R), 8th District (Eastern Jackson County), recognizing the Missouri Korean War Veterans Memorial as the official Korean War Memorial for the state of Missouri. On March 11, 2020 this bill will go in front of the Missouri State House of Representatives for vote, so we have a very short window to ensure that we have given this bill the attention and exposure that it deserves.

Dedicated on September 28, 2011, the memorial honors the legacy of Korean War Veterans, present and past, and over 900 from the State of Missouri who paid the supreme sacrifice and gave their lives in defense of South Korea. The memorial is constructed of interlocking Tilt-Up concrete panels, creating a memorial that provides shade and shelter for its visitors while at the same time provides a significant amount of transparency. The exterior walls of the memorial have a rough texture provided by local aggregate present in the concrete mixture. The interior walls of the memorial are highly polished concrete providing a backdrop for plaques that include the list of Missourians, by military branches, who died in the war.
